Customer Feedback
Here is a selection of comments both good and bad, (but mostly good), that we have received from Scottoiler users over the years. We would like to think that
it will give you some idea of the quality of our systems and of our commitment to providing you with an excellent customer service.

"The very first thing to go on my new bike was a Scottoiler which I expected to prolong the life of my chain. To my amazement I have discovered it seems the secret of eternal life for chains, because even though my bike has now covered 21,000 miles the chain is still the original one and has hardly worn at all."Derek Statham, UK
"Very disappointed in your product,as a fulltime motorcycle mechanic i can safely say it is the most complicated pile of crap device designed to oil a chain,PLEASE STOP MAKING this TURD immediately!."Anon, New Zealand
"Hi,
I have just purchased a Scott Oiler Universal kit and I just felt I needed
to say that seldom do you find ANY product these days that is provided with
such an OBVIOUS INTENTION TO PLEASE, from start to finish.
From the packaging with marked bags stating who has packed it, the
instructions provided, the backup from the website, the quality of the
actual product itself and the UNBELIEVABLE attention that's been paid to
individual needs and setups, this product absolutely SHINES!
Many larger (and smaller!) companies could learn valuable lessons by looking
Scott Oilers business ethics. I wish you every success in the future, not
that you need it!
kind regards,Mark Baxter, UKP.S. I have NEVER felt the need to write to ANY company before for whatever
reason, such was the impression that your product made. It was a very
welcome surprise...""Hi Fiona,
I bought my Honda Africa Twin with 7,800 miles on the clock & the chain & sprockets had just been replaced,
I fitted a Scottoiler straight away & I have now done another 30,000 miles to date on that same chain (50% Motorway miles).
I think the Scottoiler chain lubricating system is the best after market addition you can ever fit to a motorbike.
I just thought I'd let you know how pleased I am, & I'm hoping to break the 40,000 mile barrier early next year.
Kind regards."Mike Fielder, UK 8¬)"Hi Guys... Or Girls,
I don't usually do this sort of stuff (well .... never actually) but really thought
should on this occasion. Enclosed you will find all the extra bits and pieces
that I didn't need to fit my Scottolier and HCR.
It was an absolute pleasure, and a shock, to find every conceivable part
required to fit this excellent product to my Varadero. It is so common to buy
after market products and not have the required parts to fit it to your
particular bike (or whatever). Providing a variety of sizes of brass nipples as
well as the T piece is a nice touch. Providing a variety of options for running
and attaching the tubing was great. But then throwing in the cable ties and
insulation tape on top was fantastic and really increases the purchaser's
perception of value for money.
Before I'd even taken it out to the bike, I just knew that this product would
fit, and perform, exactly like it says on the box .. and it did. A real joy to fit.
I have returned the bits and pieces that I didn't need purely in appreciation of
you guys offering them to me in the first place. Throw them back into stock
then box them up for the next bloke that might need them.
Cheers, and keep up the good work." Steve Mackenzie, UK"Mark,
You kindly sent me two injector nozzles for my Triumph Sprint RS FOC.
I would like to thank you and Scottoiler (Scotland) Ltd for their
generosity and excellent service.
Having bought the machine secondhand with the oiler fitted but no
instructions, I did not expect you to be prepared to go to these lengths.
The combination of your web site (for installation/operation instructions)
and your prompt and helpful response re. the missing part have impressed me
considerably along with my biking colleagues.
Please pass on my thanks and appreciation to the rest of your team."Chris Harwood, UK"I have a complaint.
I am off to the Italian Lakes on Sunday on my Suzuki Bandit 1200.
I have over 25,000 miles on the clock and I am still on my original chain and sprockets.
I should be on my third set by now, but I have only adjusted the original chain once so far, and there is not much sign of wear.
THIS IS MAKING ME EXTREMELY NERVOUS as experience is shouting in my ear to change the chain before I go.
Love the product, but fear you are going to cost me a lot in tranquillisers,
Regards"Martyn France, UK"People are all too quick to write letters of complaint, but never seem to write letters of praise when it is due. So here goes, redressing the balance.
Not only is the Scottoiler Product line full of brilliant accessories (i have a cramp buster and mark 7 kit), but they are at a price that can only be described as a bargain. The oiler saves hours of chain care, and increased chain life saves a fortune.
Combine this with the best customer service of any company i have ever dealt with, i wanted a spare part and it was despatched immediately free of charge, i am a very happy customer.
I look forward to dealing with you again in future.
Regards"Mr J Bacon, UK"I am no newcomer to Scottoilers, but having fitted the touring kit to my Honda CBR1000
then doing a tour of Europe in May 2001 and later in the year a tour of Spain totalling
5700 miles. It's now May 2002 and I have never needed to adjust the chain. Brilliant product."Malcolm MacPherson, UK"I have just ordered a new chain and sprocket kit for my Honda Blackbird. I bought the bike 2nd hand and fitted a Universal oiler after about 6000 miles. This I upgraded with a Magnum tank to the Touring Model. The bike has now done 36,000 miles and this is the first chain it will have had. Brilliant, the oiler must be one of the better buys I have made. I suspect that if it had been fitted from new I would have got 40,000 miles out of it. Best regards"Bill Doodson, UK
"Hello,
just for your information:
Í have been using the Scottoiler for about 3 1/2 yeras on my Kawasaki ZR-7. You may believe it or not, but having driven almost 75.000 km I still use the first motocycle chain!
I think this is not a daily event - but marvellous.
Best regards"
Peter Aberspach, Germany"Dear Fraser,
I fitted a universal Scottoiler to my Yamaha FZ1000 earlier this year, at
8000 km. The chain is 12000km old now, 4000km of that with the Scottoiler fitted, and
it has never been adjusted. I tried tightening it by one flat on the
adjuster when I replaced the rear tyre at 10000km, but had to back it off
again when I realised it was too tight.
I cannot recommend the Scottoiler highly enough. It eliminates most of the
hassles of running a chain driven bike. The chain always has a light coating
of oil on the rollers and enough oil finds its way around the side plates to
lubricate the O rings. At first I thought there was not enough oil, but then
realised that the chain rollers were shiny, clean and oily, not shiny and
dry. The chain is always clean. At setting 4, a fill of oil lasts
approximately 2500km, or 1500 miles. I considered increasing the setting,
but the chain is well lubed now, and the extra would just fly off anyway. As
it is, the bike drops a tiny quantity of oil on the garage floor, so I know
there is enough. Another advantage is that gritty mud no longer accumulates
inside the countershaft sprocket cover. The rear end of the bike stays so
much cleaner. There's no oil on the rear tyre, ever.Yours Sincerely,"Ian Black, UK"This just a line or two, to tell you about how good your product is. I have been fitting Scottoilers since 1990 to all my bikes (7 in total) and have found it to be one of the best products you can buy your bike. I have also recommended the product to all my biking friends and they have asked me to fit the kit for them also. The other week fitted what I think may be my 100th Scottoiler (or at least a bit over) to my own bike a VFR750F. I have fitted them to every make of popular bike I can think of except Ducati !!. I even fitted one some years ago to a CBR1000F while I was in Germany on holiday. Keep up the good work."
Andy Ward, UK"Fiona,
Just a few words to say that I've used your FS365 spray with great results all year around for about three years.
It started when I bought an 8 month old Kawasaki ER5, a notorious rotter, that had already shown signs of corrosion damage. Going through Winter I needed some peace of mind and I gave your FS365 product a go. That was 3 years ago. When I traded my bike in last week it was described by the dealer as "a good clean bike. Thanks to FS365 it had stayed pretty much in the condition it was in when I first started using your product. I have now bought a new Kawasaki Z750s and this gives me the opportunity to take a bike straight from the showroom and maintain it in pristine condition despite year round use. I now expect that 3 years hence this new bike will still look good. I use FS365 after each wash and to generally clean and polish up dirty spots after every ride. I spray it all over bar the brakes and it seems to be very kind to rubber and plastics. I had originally worried about the damage the spray may cause non metallic parts, but this seems to have been a groundless concern. Thanks for a great product. I also used a Scottoiler on the ER5 too."Chris Holcroft, UK"Hi,
Just to let you know, I am a maintenance engineer and at work we decieded to test your protector 365 on a piece of mild steel unpainted. We got two pieces one untreated and one treated with fs365. All winter the two pieces stayed outside and we coated the test piece regulary with 365. To add to the test we added rock salt to both pieces. Amazing results, the untreated piece badly rusted and corroded, the treated piece just like new. Iam convinced that you have a top qualiity product once again. I have had a Scottoiler on my bikes for many years, also an amazing product. Thanks for such high quality products.
Regards,"
Dave Kemp, UK"I went through my first chain in around 12000 miles (used spray on lubes at the time -
awful stuff which attracts dirt and road muck), and fitted a Scottoiler at the same time I
replaced that chain. I'm still on the same chain and have only adjusted it twice.
The unit did stop working once about 18 months ago (mine has a hard life being used in
winter and all), and they sent me a replacement part free-of-charge which got it working
again. Last week I noticed the injector tube to the sprocket had gone missing, possibly
as a result of my not having adjusted it correctly and it may have caught on the chain
while reversing the bike. Again, I sent an e-mail to Scottoiler, and within a matter of a few
hours, they responded by advising me they were sending me a replacement injector tip
free of charge.
OK, so the actual component cost is not that great, but when a supplier deals with a
request so positively and promptly, you cannot fail to be impressed, and that is the sort of
action that ensures they retain your business.
As for the constant flow of oil from the unit, I have never experienced any problems as
the oil level falls.
I have no commercial interest in Scottoilers, I just believe a company that supplies a
good product at a reaonable price, and has good after-care service is one to be
applauded."Ken the Geordie, UK"Just for your info (if it's any help)
My current Scottoiler (think it's a mark 6) was fitted to the following Triumph speed triple (T509) = 123,000 miles Bros (product one 650)= 114,000 miles and currently Suzuki SV650SK2 = 98,000 miles And still going strong, I must say it has saved my a couple of chain & sprocket sets on each bike, and at about £100 a time fitted that's £600 or so.
But the main benefit is by far, it allows me the ride the bike, rather than spend time sorting out the chain, now that's my kind of thing."Mark Horridge, UK"Dear Scottoiler
I am the proud owner of a Touring Kit Scottoiler. Purchase with a DID chain and fitted together at 32,000 miles approx. three years ago to our CBR1000FM. I cover about 10,000 miles per year with no respect for weather conditions.
During our usual long travels we at times check the oil level in the touring tank. I have never adjusted the chain during any of our long journeys and have made only five or six minor adjustments since fitting the complete system. Last year (2000) we toured Europe covering some 3500 miles over three weeks. This was with full luggage, two-up, tent and camping equipment....but that's another story. This year we toured France & Spain covering 2500 miles over two weeks again with full camping itinerary and luggage.
Current mileage is 62,000. That is 30,000 on this chain & sprocket set and I have purchased only four bottles of your oil. The point is I am looking for some advice. Do I congratulate the manufactures of the sprockets, the manufactures of the chain, or my wife for the cup of tea she made me during the fitting process? What do you think?
I think not for the previous chain was the same type, removed after a mere 15,000 miles, it was the same sprocket type fitted with this previous chain and it was the same wife who made me tea during this previous fitting.........Well done for a great bit of kit.
Regards,"
the macs, UK"Thank you for you news letter to which I'm replying, exceptionally, to say that my Scottoiler is still functioning superbly well (after a year and a half of ownership) and is to my mind, simply the best accessory for a chain drive motor cycle. Why aren't they fitted as standard?
Chain adjustment is practically no longer required. Chain life...well, since I fitted the Scottoiler (touring version) I haven't needed to service the chain. I simply bleed the feed pipe in spring, check the oil resevoir (capacity sufficient for more than 1 year) and then , apart from the occasional change of oil flow to match temperature changes, I get out and enjoy motorcycling. Furthermore the simplicity of the device appeals to my engineering background.
Keep up the good work.
My best regards"Richard Palmer, UK"Fiona, just wanted to compliment you on the great service support from your team. I was having trouble with the way the Scottoiler had been fitted to my bike and went to your web site to check and buy some parts to fit it properly. I had a problem ordering the parts and sent a quick email asking for help. In less than 20 minutes Mark phoned me, advised me of what I needed, how it should be fixed and took my order for the parts required. He then phoned me back to suggest a way of saving me money on postage. All this for what was a few pounds worth of parts. This is real service and we, as a nation, are quick to complain and slow to say 'great job'. Rest assured that every bike I have in the future will have your products fitted!
Thanks again and please pass on my thanks to the team for really going that extra mile.
Regards" Gary Whittam, UK"I have had your standard Scottoiler fitted to a 2000 Kawasaki Zx-12 for 15,000Km. Oiling the chain on a ZX-12 while travelling is completely hopeless given the lack of centrestand but your oiler makes that problem simply go away. I'm sure you have this said all the time but - "I should have had one of these years ago!". I am a totally satisfied customer."Ray Schollick, Australia
"Thanks for the email about oyur products. Please let me tell you about the
time I use to ride a SUZUKI GSX 750 F "H" reg.
I had fitted a new D.I.D. chain and sprocket set and aparrently they
recommended between 17,000 and 21,000 miles on this chain and sprocket set.
At the same time I had fitted a SCOTOILER, when I part exchanged the bike
for a new TRIUMPH TROPHY 900 I had covered a recorded 47,000 miles and the
chain and sprocket was still in very good condition.
Just thought I would let you know.
Regards"
Glyn Tebbs, UK"I just wanted to thank you for all your customer support (even though I'm not directly a customer). I received your e-mail and attachment last week and followed it's instructions. I primed the unit, and now all is well. Everything is working properly again.
You guys are great! In an age of disappearing customer service, I'm amazed at all you did for me. Please pass that on to your company principals. Thanks again for all your help. Scottoiler is one product and company I will recommend to all my motorcycling friends. Take care, and happy new year.
Sincerely,"Jason, USA"Do not hesitate in naming me on the web page as i am happy to sing your praises to any one prepared to listen, top people doing a top job. I have written to MCN as well, as you are clearly the most helpfull, professional people i have ever had the the good fortune to deal with. Thanks again and you deserve every success."
Richard Ansell, UK. May 2007Dear David,
I fitted a Scottoiler to my Z650SR back in 1986 and its still going,
i have only changed the chain set once! in 74000 miles.
Back then the oiler cost £19.95 and i ordered it over the phone from Mr Scott himself.
Pete, Southend on Sea. June 2007David,
I’ve got to say the Scottoiler would have to be the best!
I fitted the Scottoiler Touring Kit to my bike when it was new in 1999 and now have only just changed the chain & sprockets, 95000 km’s (or 59000 miles) on the original chain!
It has definitely paid for itself with the savings I’ve made from not having to change my chain as regularly as I used to on my previous bikes.
Any future bikes I buy will get a Scottoiler.
Regards, Gary Sevier, Australia. August 2007I use the Bicycle oiler on my commute cycle. Prior to fitting the
system I was wearing out chains at a rate of about 1 per 6-8 weeks
depending on the weather, and spending time cleaning the chain twice a
week. Since fitting the Scottoiler that's changed to about once per
9 months, and even then that was at a very 'preventative' stage.
Chainset and cassette wear is non-existent. And of course this doesn't
take into account just how much smoother the drivetrain runs.
The only problem I've had is the delivery tube popping off the metal
Feed tube to the jockey wheel a few times, but a bit of tape / glue and
that's sorted. Would also suggest that in the instructions you suggest
the pump be located midway on the underside of the top tube (Position
B), but it would be better to move it forward so that you can 'pump'
whilst cycling without your knees getting in the way.
A great addition to any commuter bike / touring bike.
Duncan Tindall, UK. January 2008Twice I've bought 2nd hand bikes with Scottoilers on and twice I 've had em go wrong on me - once with almost disastrous results as my chain dried out completely in heavy rain on the motorway. Plenty of people have had nothing but joy but don't think it's a 100% reliable product because it's not.
Tom Bartram, S.Wales (May'07)SCOTTOILERS ARE BRILLIANT BUT DON'T THINK THEY'RE 100 PERCENT MAINTENANCE FREE CAUSE THEY'RE NOT - I'VE HAD THEM FAIL ON ME TWICE, ONCE ALMOST RESULTING IN DISASTER WHEN MY CHAIN DRIED OUT IN HEAVY RAIN ON THE M4. THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH HOW THEY'RE MADE, SIMPLY A MATTER THE THE SEAL IN THE RESEVOIR WILL WEAR OUT AT SOME STAGE AND THE UNIT WILL NEED TO GO BACK TO THE MANUFACTURERS FOR OVERHAUL, WHICH ISN'T EXPENSIVE. I LOVE THE PRODUCT AND WILL CARRY ON USING IT BUT IF I WENT ON LONG TOURING HOLIDAY I'D CHECK THE OILER FROM TIME TO TIME AND HAVE TIN OF CONVENTIONAL LUBE ON BOARD AS BACK UP
Tom Bartram, S.Wales (May'07)
Don't you think it's a bit dishonest having a feedback site when only the sicophantic remarks are deemed suitable for public consumption. My comments were mildly critical but entirely fair and potentially very useful to other riders. You're trying to create some matey- biker-brotherhood-kinda-thingy-ethos which makes me think like whatever how phoney, how American, what bullshit etc etc
Tom Bartram, S.Wales (July'07)
